Product Discounts

Product discounts enable you to handle promotions while controlling the duration that discounts can be applied.

Product discounts are applied for a specified number of service periods when associated with a product with a recurring charge price. For example, you can discount a product for a customer who uses automatic payment by applying a 10% savings for the first six months they pay automatically. When a product discount is associated with product that has a one-time charge price, it provides the discount once at the time of purchase.

Discounts are created and managed in the Products application and can be viewed in the Product Catalog application.

Discounts can be calculated in two ways:

  • Flat — Enables you to provide a discount that is a fixed amount. For example, you can have a promotion that gives the customer a $10 discount if they sign up in January.

  • Percentage — Enables you to apply a discount that is a percentage of the charge amount. For example, you can provide a VIP customer with a 15% discount off all subscription charges.

A product discount is applied at the time of sale. A discount can transfer to a changed service if the discount also applies to the new service. A product discount also can be added after the sale to an existing service.

You can create serialized or stacked discounts on a service. For example, if a customer refers a friend, they get $10 discount. If they refer a second friend, they get another $10 discount. Discounts cannot overlap and there can be no gaps in the sequence. Discounts cannot be serialized on the order. To configure serialized discounts, you must add them from the Service Details window. The oldest discount can be deleted. There is no limit to how many discounts you can set up for a customer.
