Product Trials

You can configure subscription products in Gotransverse to include a free trial period.

Gotransverse suggests using discounts instead of trials. Discounts are managed in the Discounts Module of the Products application. Discounts can also be viewed in the Product Catalog application’s Discounts Module.

When a product with a trial is ordered, the service that is created has a status of Trial. The customer is not charged for this trial service. In addition, any usage against the service during that time period is also not charged.

The trial service will continue until the end of the configured time period. At the end of the trial period, the service automatically converts to Active status. The customer is then charged for a regular subscription starting from the date that the trial ended.

If you want to convert the trial to a paid service effective earlier than the initial end date, you must first deactivate the trial and then order a new paid service. Otherwise, the trial will continue to the specified end date.

Trials can be configured for subscription products only. However, Add-On products can inherit a trial period from any parent products with which they are associated. An Add-On product with a parent product inherits both the recurrence period and trial period from the parent subscription product.

Review the following details about product trials before creating and using this feature:

  • Customer is not charged during the trial period.

  • The trial service is automatically converted to an active service at the end of the trial period.

  • Converting the trial before the end date does not shorten the trial period, but rather sets the trial service to convert to paid service at end of the trial period.

  • Usage is not billed during the trial period, because no active service period is included while the service is in the trial period.

  • No transactions are entered in the general ledger (GL) during the trial period.

If you have set up and/or scheduled order approvals for a product through the In Progress Approval product action, a configured trial period does not begin until an order item is approved. Refer to Product Actions for more information about configuring approvals.

Products are created and managed in both the Product Catalog and Products applications.
