Accounting Management Module

The Accounting Management Module and Accounting Transactions Module sections of this user guide are only applicable to those customers who have used these modules before January 1, 2022. As of January 1, 2022, functionality found in the Accounting Management and Accounting Transactions modules was replaced by the Revenue Management offering. Refer to Revenue Management for more information on using the Revenue Management application to manage general ledgers, chart of accounts, and posting rules.

The Accounting Management module allows you to manage general ledgers, chart of accounts, general ledger (GL) posting rules, as well as view GL rule templates.

You can also create a manual GL entry (depending on your security authority) when needed in the Accounting Management module. For example, you might need to adjust GL account amounts based on the subsequent billing accounts information, or if the wrong reason code was entered when making an adjustment. To correct the error you would first create an manual GL entry to reverse the erroneous post and then create another manual GL entry to post to the correct accounts.

You may also need to add a manual GL entry if an invoice goes unpaid. You can correct it by manually debiting certain accounts and crediting the accounts receivables.

A manual GL entry must have the total debit amount equal the total credit amount. Once you have made the manual GL entry, you cannot delete it. Instead, you must make a reversing entry.

If a manual GL entry is backdated, and your accounting period has already closed, then the manual GL entry is posted on the next open accounting period and retains the backdated date. Customer accounts are not affected by a manual GL entry since an account is only updated for account transactions such as invoices, payments, and adjustments.

General ledgers and chart of accounts can also be created and managed in the Revenue Management application’s Setup Module.

Refer to Add Manual General Ledger Entry for details on adding entries to a general ledger.
